Nearby Ruthin is a small town steeped in history with a Norman Castle
and quaint narrow streets lined with timber framed brick and stone
houses around its central market square.
It is set in the heart of the vale of Clwyd surrounded by farmland
and wooded areas and overlooked by the Clwydian mountains with
the northerly section of Offa's Dyke long distance footpath giving
easy access to fine mountain views.
Ruthin has a good selection of restaurants and one is within walking
distance of Firgrove.

The Roman City of Chester is only 40 minutes by car and well worth
a visit.

Music is an important part of Welsh life with many festivals and
"Eisteddfods". Ruthin Choir has travelled far and wide and visitors
are welcome to their practice evenings to listen to their varied
repertoire and enjoy the Welsh language experience (normally Thursday
evenings but check first).
September sees a seven day music festival at St. Asaph Cathedral,
and of course, the world famous Llangollen International Eisteddfod
in early July is a spectacular hosting of singers and dancers
from all over the globe.

The area has many gardens to visit and specialist nurseries to
offer the keen gardener an exciting experience.
Within the area there are other gardens in the National Garden Scheme (Yellow Book) that are open by appointment.
Firgrove is the ideal centre for a relaxing exploration of North Wales - only 60 minutes by car from Liverpool and Manchester Airports and less than 2 hours from the Holyhead Irish Ferry Terminal. A new ferry service to Ireland is now available from Mostyn, only 40 minutes drive from Ruthin.
